May 26 Book Club Pick: Fat Kid Rules the World by K.L. Going

Book Club is reading Fat Kid Rules the World by K.L. Going for the next meeting; all are welcome to join the discussion after school in the library on Thursday, May 26. If you need a copy, speak with Ms. Charpentier or visit the Uxbridge Free Public Library.

From Goodreads: "Troy Billings is seventeen, 296 pounds, friendless, utterly miserable, and about to step off a New York subway platform in front of an oncoming train. Until he meets Curt MacCrae, an emaciated, semi-homeless, high school dropout guitar genius, the stuff of which Lower East Side punk rock legends are made. Never mind that Troy's dad thinks Curt's a drug addict and Troy's brother thinks Troy's the biggest (literally) loser in Manhattan. Soon, Curt has recruited Troy as his new drummer, even though Troy can't play the drums. Together, Curt and Troy will change the world of punk, and Troy's own life, forever."

If you liked the April Book Club pick, The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, check out some recommended similar books on display in the library and on Pinterest.

Audiobook SYNC 2016

Every summer, the Audiobook Sync program gives away 2 audiobook downloads every week throughout the summer. Each week, a young adult and classic title with similar themes are offered as free downloads. As long as you download those titles during the week they're offered, they're yours to keep. Audiobooks can be downloaded directly to your smartphone or iPad using the OverDrive app.

Sync kicks off next week on Thursday, May 5, with downloads of Vivian Apple at the End of the World by Katie Coyle and The Great Tennessee Monkey Trial by Peter Goodchild. See the Sync website for a full list of the books that will be given away this summer.

If you try audiobooks through Sync, like them, and want more, never fear. Through OverDrive, you can borrow audiobooks and eBooks directly to your devices using your C/W MARS library card from the Uxbridge Free Public Library or your BPL eCard. Talk to Ms. C or visit these tutorials for help setting up OverDrive or a BPL eCard.
