Book Club is reading A Really Awesome Mess by Trish Cook and Brendan Halpin for the first discussion this year; all are welcome to join the discussion after school in the library on Thursday, October 13. If you need a copy, speak with Ms. Charpentier or visit the Uxbridge Free Public Library.
From Goodreads: "When Justin's dad walked in on him in a very compromising position, his summer took a quick turn for the worse. His parents' divorce put Justin on rocky mental ground, and after he lands in the hospital, he has hit rock bottom. Emmy never felt like part of her family. She was adopted from China. Her parents and sister look like they came out of a catalog--and Emmy doesn't. After a photo leads to rumors at school, she threatens the boy who started it all on Facebook. Justin and Emmy arrive at a reform school that will force them to deal with their issues, damaged souls with little patience for authority. But along the way they will find a ragtag group of teens who are just as broken, stubborn, and full of sarcasm as themselves. In the end, they might even call each other friends."
Book Club will be choosing books for first semester after school in the library on Thursday, September 8. All interested students are welcome to come, suggest books, and vote on the Book Club picks for October through January. Interested students can email Ms. Charpentier with any questions.
Are you a fan of anime, manga, or the Japanese culture? If you are, come to this year's first Anime/Manga Club on Friday, September 9, after school in the library! The club focuses on reading and discussing manga, watching and discussing anime, manga-style art, cosplay, and learning about Japanese culture (including, but not limited to, the eating of Japanese candy).
Interested students can talk to Ms. Charpentier or email club president Krysten Boyer with any questions.
