Many other news and information sources are available either in full online or behind a paywall. When considering an online source, ask yourself: Is it news? Is it reliable information?
Is It News? Ask yourself if it satisfies this criteria:
- Is it informative?
- Does it rely on facts?
- Can you tell who wrote/created it?
- Is it objective?
- Is it timely?
If it's not news, it might be an opinion piece, infotainment (think listicles), marketing, propaganda, or a scam.
Some of these might still provide good information, so apply the CRAAP test to decide if information is useful to you:
- Is it Current?
- Is it Relevant?
- Is it Authoritative?
- Is it Accurate?
- Does its Purpose match your information need?
